How I Met My Husband

Image
If you can recall in my first blog, I wrote about my earliest experiences with technology. I would be remised if I didn’t talk about how technological advances have changed my adult life. Disclaimer, it’s not as exciting as you might think…     I’m sure by now, most people have experience with internet and email. But how many of us remember aol? America Online? Dial-up? Chances are, your birth year doesn’t have a 19 in front of it then you may not. Believe it or not, 90s internet actually used the landline phone (yes, landline, as in home phone…). I will always remember hearing “I’M ON THE PHONE!” As my mother would holler down the stairs whenever I attempted to log in without asking first. Once she finished her phone conversation, she would let me know that it was ok to sign into my aol account. I was in about sixth grade at the time so no, I wasn’t checking my email. I was checking my instant messages.     Before Faceb...

Work the Network

When I first learned of a professional learning network, or PLN, I immediately thought “a professional group of people who…” I began to rack my brain with thoughts of people that I have encountered in my life who have had a had substantial influence. They know me and I know them but we don’t really KNOW each other. The people I originally thought to include in my PLN were people that more than likely would have been in my parents’ PLN. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. They were just people that had a close, personal relationship with my parents rather than myself. So I had to dig a little deeper.      I am an education...

Kickin’ It Old School…      When we think of technology of today, it’s easy to think of the newest gaming systems, social media platforms, or even the debate between iPhone or Android. Every once in a while, it’s fun to take a trip down memory lane. It’s time to kick it old school…     To put things into perspective, I was born in 1990. The 90’s were known as a “decade of peace and prosperity.” Also known as “The Post-Cold War Decade,” this era brought about the rise of the internet and is remembered for its fashion, movies, and music. My mother dragged myself and my sister along to stand in line for new beanie baby releases, Spice World was all the rage, and you were either team N’SYNC or team Backstreet (I was, am, and always will be team BSB…). This trip down memory lane would be remiss if we didn’t mention talk about the tech.     Contrary to what most of what are children believe about the 90’s, yes, we had color television. We didn’t have smart ...
